Description of the Programme
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) has announced the 9th Summer Internship Programme to offer undergraduate students the chance to conduct summer research at the CRG. The aim of the program is to motivate students, of any nationality, in the pursuit of a scientific career and to introduce them to an international laboratory experience.
A maximum of 8 internship positions will be awarded in 2021.
Eligibility criteria
– Undergraduates with outstanding academic performance and a deep interest in biosciences and biomedical research (strongly recommended previous laboratory experience) who are in their final two years of study in life sciences or related subjects (e.g. Bioinformatics, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Chemistry).
– Two full years of college coursework (4 semesters) are finished by the moment the internship starts.
– At the time of the internship, candidates may not have earned an undergraduate degree (Summer 2021).
– Applicants may not have received a “CRG Summer Internship” previously.
– High level of English.
– You are eligible to enter into a student placement/internship arrangement through your university.
Positions will be awarded on a competitive basis taking into consideration the student’s academic records and the motivation & reference letter(s). Each student will be matched with a specific laboratory based on the student’s interest and background.
Duration
Summer training will be consisting of 320 working hours (40 hours per week) spread over two months between June/July and September 2021, however, all summer internship fellows are expected to be at CRG on the week of 20 July 2021, as some specific events will be arranged.
A full-time commitment from the participant includes the rigorous nature of the program. In all planned events, students are expected to participate.
Application Process
Applications for the CRG Summer Internship Programme are accepted exclusively online through the online application system. Candidates must prepare their online application in English.
The application will include the following information:
The registration form duly completed.
– Your most recent academic record, which should contain the title and grades of the programs you have taken to date.
– Description of your research interest in the life sciences, what you expect to achieve from your participation in the CRG Summer Internship Program, your vision of what will help you at a personal and academic level from the summer internship, and the reasons for your decision.
– Candidates will be asked to provide the contact details of at least one referee. Then the online system will send an email to the referee
with the steps to follow to be able to upload the reference letter to your application form.
– If all the relevant documents is not provided, you will be unable to submit the form.
– Candidates are encouraged to check information (http://www.crg.eu/content/research/faculty-members) regarding the lab and the Group Leader before selecting one lab in the form.
– All the information must be submitted by the application deadline.
Appointment conditions
- All selected candidates: 400€/month
- If the candidate is not from Barcelona: 1 return ticket to the student’s place of residence (European ticket up to of 300€ / Overseas up to 800€)

- Meal vouchers (lunch/working days) for 2 months.
- Student interns must provide their own health and accident insurance in case it is not provided by the University.
- To complement the internship the fellows will need to provide a final scientific report and participate of some activities that will be organized throughout the internship.
From this stipend, students are responsible for their own housing.
There is no contractual arrangement between the beneficiary and the CRG in terms of involvement in the Summer Internship Programme. If the participant willingly withdraws or interrupts the programme for some reason, any compensation unduly obtained must be repaid.
